Katy Perry was born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson on October 25, 1984 in Santa Barbara, California, to Mary Christine Hudson (née Perry) and Maurice Keith Hudson. She has an older sister named Angela and a younger brother named David, and her ancestors are from England, Portugal, Germany, Ireland, and Scotland. Her mother’s half-brother was director Frank Perry.

Perry was raised in a strongly religious family, and his first experience with performance was singing in church. Perry’s interest for music intensified, and at the age of 15, he began visiting Nashville to obtain expertise in songwriting and recording demos.

She signed with the Christian record label Red Hill and released an album under her birth name, Katy Hudson. The record was not a success. At the age of 17, she moved to Los Angeles and worked with producer Glen Ballard, but she was unable to acquire a long-term record deal. Perry signed with Columbia Records in 2004, but it was not a success, and she was dropped.

Perry was recommended to Virgin Records chairman Jason Flom by a Columbia executive, and she signed with Capitol Music Group as a result. She recorded her second album, “One of the Boys,” and released its first single, the controversial “I Kissed a Girl,” in the spring of 2008. The song was a smash, reaching number one in various countries. Other successful singles followed, and the album achieved economic success.

Perry was suddenly a pop phenomenon, and her following album, “Teenage Dreams,” produced more chart-topping hits such as “California Gurls” and “Firework.” Numerous honors and music industry records followed. Perry made her cinematic debut in 2012 with Katy Perry: Part of Me, a documentary feature film.

Katy Perry has launched her own record company, “Metamorphosis Music,” and has signed her first singer, Ferras, who was previously signed to Capitol Records alongside Katy Perry in 2007. He issued an EP on the same day that the record label’s news was made public. His new EP also includes a duet with Katy; they are set to tour North America together from June 22 in Raleigh, North Carolina to October 11 in Houston, Texas.
